The Remembrance and Hope Seat was commissioned by Kew Gardens to commemorate the centenary of the end of WW1. Designed and made by Gaze Burvill, it was crafted from an oak tree grown at Kew, which started life as an acorn taken from the battlefields of Verdun, one of the longest and costliest battles of WW1. This was a very a special, bespoke outdoor furniture project, unlike one we had ever undertaken before. We took great pleasure going back to Kew Gardens this November, one year after the unveiling to view the seat once more. Sitting poignantly in front of the ‘Temple of Arethusa’ which houses the War memorial plaque, it was glowing in the glorious warm autumnal sunshine, giving passers by a place to sit and contemplate and discover it’s unusual design. We highly recommend a visit to the wonderful Kew Gardens to see the seat for yourself.
