Aftercare Service

Our Aftercare team are highly experienced and are always ready to offer advice on how to maintain and care for your outdoor furniture. Alternatively, they can take out the hassle and clean and recondition it for you. Our Aftercare service offers the peace of mind that your furniture is kept in great condition, retaining its beauty and resilience for years to come and ensuring that you enjoy the furniture at its absolute best. The process will bring back the softness of touch, protect, rejuvenate and make future maintenance easier.

Our aftercare services include:

  • Cleaning – Suitable for outdoor furniture that is more than a year old and has not been treated with our oils, or if a finish is not required.
  • Reconditioning – Full assessment of outdoor furniture, steam clean, a light sanding to a smooth finish and application of two coats of penetrating oil.
  • Recoating – Top-up application of penetrating oil to maintain the water repellency and colour. Suitable for outdoor furniture which has previously had the reconditioning service.

Our Aftercare Service

As a natural material, spending time exposed to the elements, the wood will change in appearance. Weathering of the oak creates a beautiful silver-grey patina, which is unusual and in many parts of the World, a sought-after look.

As the oak ages, it gradually loses its surface oils. These oils give the oak its impermeability, allowing it to dry off faster and making it easier to keep clean. Left unmaintained, water and fungi penetrate the natural fissures of the wood which can cause blackening of the surface and in worst cases, lead to localised rot.

Fortunately, it is very simple to protect against this through a low maintenance furniture care regime.

Advice From The Gaze Burvill Aftercare Manager

Placement of outdoor furniture is very important. If the furniture is in constant contact with grass or soil we recommend a piece of slate or quarry tile is placed under each foot.

Ideally the furniture should be placed with air circulating around it.

When washing outdoor furniture, use a stiff, but not metal, brush, warm water and a pH neutral detergent.

For more stubborn dirt, we recommend using sugar soap or a wood cleaning solution.

At 2-5 years old, depending on its location, outdoor furniture should be cleaned and treated with a penetrating oil.

It needs a light sanding before the oil is applied.

An annual wash, light sanding and a re-coat every 2 years.

Please do not use a pressure washer, this can damage your furniture.
